Pingbacks and Trackbacks are methods in WordPress that alert blogs that you have linked to them. Difference between them is :
Pingbacks – Pingbacks give software the ability to communicate with websites.
Trackbacks – Trackbacks gives bloggers the ability to communicate between websites.
Pingbacks and trackbacks are linking notifications that allow you to keep the track of the other sites that link to your content. You can make them appear on your comment section, by making these notifications enabled in WordPress. Even though pingbacks and trackbacks generate communication between blogs, but they still need to be aware about the bots that insert spam links on your site. Thus, normally it is advised that you should disable pingbacks and trackbacks, still if you want you can enable them only if you are sure that you want to use them.
Enable and Disable Pingbacks and Trackbacks
Follow these steps :
1. Log in to WordPress as an administrator.
2. On the left side of the WordPress dashboard, click Settings, and then click on Discussion.
3. Go to Default article settings section
Enable notifications :
To enable pingbacks and trackbacks, select Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) check box.
Disable notification :
To disable pingbacks and trackbacks, un-tick the Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) check box.
4. Click on Save changes.
That’s it. Enable and disable the notifications as per your preference.
